Giants safety Landon Collins expects to win Defensive Rookie of the Year

Giants safety Landon Collins thinks he can do what no Giants rookie has done since 1981 — win Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Collins, a second round pick out of Alabama who projects as the Giants' starting strong safety this season, was succinct about his expectations for his rookie season in an interview with NFL.com.

"Defensive Rookie of the Year, that's my expectation," Collins said.

Bold words from a rookie? Sure. But a healthy dose of confidence going into training camp is never a bad thing.

In spring practices, Collins was getting all of the reps with the first team and began to take ownership of the position in training camp, barking defensive signals like a seasoned vet, impressing Tom Coughlin in the process.
