With a roster spot open since fullback/defensive tackle Nikita Whitlock was officially placed on IR with a knee injury Wednesday, the New York Giants have re-signed veteran safety Brandon Meriweather.
Meriweather started the first 11 games of the season for the Giants, then missed two games with a knee injury. He was released last week to make room for defensive tackle Barry Cofield.
The emergence of Cooper Taylor is part of what had made Meriweather expendable. Taylor, however, suffered a concussion on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
