Thompson has managed to hang around through two injury-plagued seasons, but his grip on a roster spot is getting weaker. The move to cornerback should improve his odds of sticking because the Giants lack depth at the position. But Thompson first needs to stay healthy and then prove that he can make the adjustment.
Thompson was a healthy scratch for last season's opener and then was put on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury after playing eight snaps on special teams in Week 2. Thompson said he was ready to return late last season, but the Giants used their one designated to return spot from injured reserve on running back Shane Vereen.
