EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Giants have released veteran safety Brandon Meriweather.
The eight-year veteran was cut Wednesday, leaving the team with only three safeties on the roster: rookie Landon Collins, Craig Dahl and Cooper Taylor.
Meriweather joined the Giants on Aug. 16, the same day rookie safety Mykkele Thompson was placed on injured reserve with a torn Achilles tendon. Meriweather started the season’s first 11 games before missing the last two with a knee injury.
Meriweather, a two-time Pro Bowler, had 53 tackles (38 solo), two interceptions and seven passes defensed this season.
