Giants put away the doom and gloom for at least one week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Before he ever coached a game for the Giants, Pat Shurmur heard all about it. Heard all about the way Eli Manning owned the fourth quarter, how cool, calm and collected he was when everything was overheating around him.

So many insiders around the franchise told Shurmur this was so.

“When I was learning the background of Eli … the guy that drafted him and brought him here said he was just so good at doing that,’’ Shurmur said, “and that some quarterbacks have a knack for doing that phase of the game.
