Giants’ other standout rookie continues getting better

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Through four games, Will Hernandez is the highest-rated rookie offensive lineman in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus, performing at a more effective level than Mike McGlinchey (49ers), Brian O’Neill (Vikings), Connor Williams (Cowboys), Desmond Harrison (Browns) and Frank Ragnow (Lions). Hernandez, according to PFF, is a more technically sound guard than even Quenton Nelson, the No. 6-overall pick by the Colts in the NFL draft, widely considered the top offensive lineman coming out of college.

On Friday, Hernandez was named the PFF Offensive Rookie of the Month.

Despite struggles along the line, Hernandez is fitting the mold of “hog mollie,” the term of endearment general manager Dave Gettleman assigns to tough offensive linemen.
