Giants on high alert for spread of dangerous bacteria

Based on a directive from the NFL and the NFL Players Association, the Giants briefed their players Wednesday morning on safety protocols after tight end Daniel Fells had to be hospitalized after contracting the MRSA bacterium.

Team physicians, senior vice president of medical services Ronnie Barnes and individuals who clean the team facility offered an update on what is being done to prevent the spread of the staph infection.

“We had the person in charge of the facility here talk about the cleaning process,’’ Tom Coughlin said. “The players asked a couple of questions, a couple of good questions.
