Giants must figure out WR ‘who’s catching basically everything’

The receptions are impressive. So is the yardage. Both rank No. 1 in the league through three weeks. The percentage, however, is what really stands out.

When Drew Brees targets Michael Thomas, a completion follows, and frequently a big play. Forty times the Saints quarterback has looked for his No. 1 receiver, and 38 times they have connected.

“That’s an unbelievable number,” Giants defensive coordinator James Bettcher said this week as the team prepared to slow down New Orleans’ dynamic duo.

“For as long as I’ve been [following] football, as far as targets and catches at that rate, it’s definitely something I’ve never seen before that’s been happening with him,” said Giants cornerback Eli Apple, who will miss the game with a groin injury.
