Giants meet with DE Charles Johnson, also interested in Mario Williams

The Giants seem to be in a rush to get a pass-rusher.

They met with former Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson on Sunday, before the official start of free agency this week. Johnson, who played nine seasons in Carolina, was released on Thursday. He was due to count $15 million against the Panthers’ salary cap.

Because he was released, Johnson does not have to wait until Wednesday to sign with a new team.

The Giants also have expressed interest in former Bills defensive end Mario Williams and could bring him in for a visit prior to Wednesday’s official start to free agency.
