EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants won Thursday’s preseason opener, defeating the New York Jets, 31-22. The story of the game wasn’t, however, the score. This was all about the brief, electrifying debut of rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.
One drive was all it took
Jones took over for Eli Manning on the Giants’ second possession of the game, and lit up Giants’ universe by going 5-for-5 for 67 yards, punctuating an eight-play, 79-yard drive drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass on an out route to Bennie Fowler in the corner of the end zone.
