One defensive mind presided over one of the worst defenses in NFL history. Another was responsible for a surprisingly solid ‘D’ in Detroit.
Both got their shots to interview for the Giants’ vacant head coaching job on Thursday. Owner John Mara continued his “extensive” search to replace the departed Tom Coughlin by meeting with his own defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, in the morning, and later interviewing Teryl Austin, the defensive coordinator of the Lions for the last two years and a hot coaching candidate this offseason.
The Giants confirmed both interviews on their website. The club has now interviewed three candidates for the job; offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was the first option interviewed on Tuesday.
