When the Giants face the Eagles on Sunday afternoon in the Meadowlands, they won’t face the Eagles team that Tom Coughlin expected to see.
Why? Because Coughlin wasn’t expecting to see Chip Kelly, the Eagles’ third-year coach, ousted just days before the end of the season, either.
“Quite frankly, I’m not surprised by anything in this business,” Coughlin said Wednesday, when asked about Kelly’s abrupt firing a day earlier. “But that one was close.”
The Eagles axed Kelly Tuesday, parting ways with a coach who was once considered one of the NFL’s brightest minds. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has been named interim head coach.
