Giants Insider: Beason doesn't practice, but progresses

Linebacker Jon Beason (knee) did not practice on Tuesday, but was seen doing sprints and working with trainers. Tom Coughlin seems to believe he is progressing.

"He feels better," Coughlin said. "He's got a routine now, and they get a little bit more aggressive each day with it. So he's optimistic, let's put it that way."

Coughlin was then asked if he too is optimistic, prompting the 69-year-old into having bit of fun.

"(Beason's) optimistic. Whatever they tell me," Coughlin said. "I'm the eternal optimist."

PUNTER PROBLEMS

Steve Weatherford won the Giants starting punter job on paper Tuesday afternoon when the team cut Robert Malone.
