NEW YORK -- Darian Thompson and the Giants' medical staff aren't planning to make the same mistake twice.
Thompson suffered an injury that was described as a "sprained foot" in Week 2 last season. The free safety missed six weeks and then promptly suffered a setback when he returned to practice in November. Thompson was diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury and the 2016 third-round pick needed season-ending surgery.
The recovery period for a Lisfranc injury is notoriously long and some players never return to form.
