The New York Giants have announced that they are placing center Austin Schlottmann on the injured reserve. The team is signing TE/FB Jakob Johnson from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move.
Schlottmann suffered a broken fibula in practice on Wednesday when he was reportedly rolled up upon. Dan Duggan of The Athletic is reporting that while Schlottmann doesn’t need surgery, he’s expected to miss 8-10 weeks with the injury.
Schlottmann was the Giants’ primary backup center behind John Michael Schmitz. Veteran interior lineman Greg Van Roten, who is currently starting at right guard, will likely be the new backup center.
