NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Y.A. Tittle, the Hall of Fame quarterback who led the Giants to three consecutive NFL championship games in the 1960s, has died. He was 90.
His death was confirmed Monday morning by Louisiana State University, where he played his college ball.
The cause of his death has not been announced.
Known as the “Bald Eagle” after he began losing his hair as a teenager, Tittle played professionally for 17 years from 1948-64 for the Baltimore Colts, San Francisco 49ers and Giants. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro and voted league MVP in 1963, at age 37.
