Giants GM thinks obsessing over shelf-life factor is ‘dangerous’

The hope is they all become Eli Manning or Michael Strahan or Tiki Barber, players taken high in the draft who arrive and seemingly never leave. They put on Giants’ blue and take it off only when whey they are ready to retire, a decade (or more) later.

Manning is still going strong, after 14 years. Strahan’s 15-year run ended with him hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Barber, at running back — the most demanding position of all — not only lasted 10 years, but exited of his own volition, despite having plenty left in his tank, evidenced by his final season (1,662 rushing yards, 58 receptions).
