EAST RUTHERFORD -- Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has received a positive prognosis after being diagnosed with lymphoma, according to a statement released by the team.
Lymphoma is a cancer that starts in cells that are part of the body's immune system, according to the American Cancer Society.
Gettleman, 67, was hired in December to turn around the Giants, where he headed the pro personnel department from 1999-2012. He built the Panthers into a Super Bowl team during his five-year run as general manager.
If Gettleman needs to take a step back for his recovery, Kevin Abrams has 16 years experience as Giants assistant general manager and was the interim general manager after Jerry Reese during the 2017 season.
