One of Dave Gettleman’s mantras is, “You do not quit on talent.”
But ahead of next week’s NFL draft, the Giants general manager suggested it’s overrated.
“Roster building is not just about acquiring talent, but about finding players who fit athletically, intellectually and culturally with what you’re trying to accomplish,” Gettleman said Thursday afternoon from MetLife Stadium.
Gettleman added, in regards to the team’s ever-growing need to find Eli Manning’s heir in the coming days, that, “You’ve got to have a mental toughness to play the position here in New York.”
The second-year GM’s comments also could have been taken as an explanation of the trade of Odell Beckham Jr.
