Giants’ Geno Smith Fumbles Twice in Uneven First Half

Related Topics: Fumble

Giants quarterback Geno Smith showed what he is capable of — both good and bad — in the first half against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Smith led a touchdown drive but also lost two fumbles, and the Giants went into the locker room down 10-7 at halftime.

Stepping in as the first Giants quarterback other than Eli Manning to start a game since Nov. 14, 2004, and as the first black starting quarterback in franchise history, Smith completed 9 of 15 passes for 93 yards in the half. But while he could be excused for his first fumble in the half, the second came on a 2nd-and-goal from Oakland 4-yard line in the final minute of the half, spoiling an excellent scoring opportunity for the Giants.
