One of the best stories in Giants training camp has seen his time run out.
The Giants have cut guard Austin Droogsma, replacing him with lineman Malcolm Bunche.
Droogsma, a long shot to make the team, was a shot putter at Florida State and had not played played football since high school. The Giants, to his disbelief, invited him to try out at mini-camp, and he was subsequently signed to the 90-man roster. Droogsma had been serving as a security guard to make ends meet.
Head coach Pat Shurmur recently admitted Droogsma, who had been working with the third team at left guard, faced a “big challenge” in catching up after a long absence from the game.
