As the Giants prepare to face an ageless running back, they decided to shut down their own running back who has shown the downfall that can happen after age 30.
The Giants decided not to activate running back Jonathan Stewart (foot) from injured reserve by Thursday's NFL-imposed deadline for making the move. He is out for the season and no longer can practice as he had been for the past three weeks in hopes of returning.
Stewart declined a media request Thursday in the locker room after not participating in practice.
The former first-round draft pick is the all-time leading rusher in Panthers' history with 7,318 yards, but he had just six carries for 17 yards in three games with the Giants.
