NEW YORK -- Giants defensive end Olivier Vernon has a $250,000 workout bonus in the five-year, $85 million contract he signed last offseason. But Vernon has decided that spending time in sunny Miami with his personal trainer is more valuable than the six-figure bonus he could earn by attending voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs).
Vernon, like wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., has been absent from the Giants' first eight OTAs. The Giants have two more OTAs this week before a three-day minicamp kicks off next Tuesday.
Vernon vowed on Tuesday night that he'll report for the mandatory minicamp, but don't expect to see the All-Pro at the final two OTAs this week.
