EAST RUTHERFORD — He joked about getting "cooties" with a weakened immune system, about his wife leaving him for a man with hair and about having to cancel his Cape Cod vacation.
Thursday's impromptu appearance at a podium in the Giants practice facility was vintage Dave Gettleman (minus a Yiddish reference or two) as fans and media have come to know the philosophizing and self-deprecating wise-cracker in the eight months since he was hired as the team's general manager.
Gettleman, 67, was bald and thinner and difficult to recognize at first .
