The Giants placed veteran TE Daniel Fells on injured reserve with a staph infection which was discovered as he was being treated for a chronic ankle condition late last week.
Tom Coughlin said he'd like to replace him with another veteran at the position given the relative inexperience of the group, but that may not be possible.
"That type of player may or may not be available," Coughlin said on a conference call Monday. "We'll have to see where that stands."
Coughlin pointed out that Larry Donnell has played a "significant" number of snaps this season and has "grown into that role" of the starting tight end.
