EAST RUTHERFORD -- It wasn't clear if Brett Jones had the ability to play in the NFL this time last year, much less make the Giants' 53-man roster.
The former Canadian Football League star had struggled in his first training camp in 2015 before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the Giants' final preseason game. He was unlikely to make the team then had he not suffered the injury.
Jones showed significant improvement in his second preseason, though, earning a roster spot as the team's backup center before appearing in 14 games with one short-lived start at left guard (he suffered a knee injury eight snaps into the Giants' Week 10 win over the Bengals) and significant playing time at center and left guard in two other games.
