The Giants added a piece to their defense that could be quite helpful Sunday against the Panthers as they activated Josh Mauro, who served a four-game suspension to start the season.
To make room on the roster, kick returner Stacy Coley was put on injured reserve with a hamstring issue.
Mauro was signed by the Giants in March after he spent four years with the Cardinals, the final three playing for defensive coordinator James Bettcher during his stint in Arizona. Bettcher moved to the Giants and Mauro is well-versed in the 3-4 system Bettcher employs. Mauro, 27, is a stop-the-run defensive end who can set the edge, skills that will be beneficial Sunday when the Giants face the Panthers in Charlotte.
