Former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was a surprise cut Friday by the Bears.
Cruz caught 303 passes for the Giants from 2010 to 2016, but only 62 in his final three seasons because of injuries. The Giants released him early in the offseason, and he signed with the Bears in May.
Chicago lost an expected starter at the position, Cameron Meredith, because of a torn ACL in the team’s third preseason game, but the Bears still decided they didn’t have room for Cruz. The Bears had also added free agent wideouts Markus Wheaton and Kendall Wright during the offseason to supplement 2015 first-round pick Kevin White.
