Phillips, the Giants first round pick in 2008, was an outstanding safety when he was healthy. Unfortunately for Phillips he battled injury, especially in his knees, throughout the duration of his Giants career.
On the Giants last defensive stand of Super Bowl 46 Phillips deflected 2 passes to thwart the New England Patriots comeback attempt. The first ball he tipped was a pass over the middle of the field to tight end Aaron Hernandez, Phillips barely got his fingers on the ball but it was enough to change the direction of the ball slightly enough to cause Hernandez to drop the ball.
