For Giants’ oft-injured, mystery safety, ‘The time is now’

Sometimes players get defensive about missed time and injuries and bad luck.

Cooper Taylor gets realistic.

“It’s time to produce,’’ he said matter-of-factly Monday after an organized team activity practice. “The time is now.”

The statuesque safety has been more observer than player in his two years with the Giants and somehow, someway, something has to change. Just like that, he’s 25 years old and the Giants need him after gutting their depth at safety, jettisoning experienced starters and leaving behind an unproven, young group.

Taylor at the moment is working with the first-team defense, sharing the secondary with rookie Landon Collins, the second-round pick from Alabama.
