Giants coach Pat Shurmur and Panthers coach Ron Rivera were assistants together on Andy Reid's staff with the Eagles more than a decade ago. Shurmur also worked under Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner with the Vikings in 2016, eventually replacing a fired Turner.
Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula and special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey held those same titles with the Panthers under Rivera last season.
Giants running back Jonathan Stewart (injured reserve), wide receiver Russell Shepard and tight end Scott Simonson were with the Panthers last season.
