Ex-Giants RB David Wilson jumps into his new career

David Wilson can call himself a professional athlete once again.

Nearly a year after being forced to retire from football because of spinal stenosis — the same injury currently plaguing Mets third baseman David Wright — the former Giants running back made his pro track and field debut Saturday afternoon in the triple jump at the adidas Grand Prix on Randall’s Island.

It wasn’t the performance Wilson was hoping for in his first meet since 2011, when he was student-athlete at Virginia Tech. He finished in last place with a jump of 14.66 meters and failed to achieve his stated goal of qualifying for the national championships being held later this month.
