Ex-Giant and Jet Plaxico Burress to avoid prison on tax charges, per report

Plaxico Burress' legal troubles won't land him in jail this time.

Burress, a former wide receiver for the Giants and Jets during his NFL career, has reportedly struck a deal that includes no jail time after facing charges that stem from failing to pay $47,903 in New Jersey income taxes. TMZ says the deal will include Burress paying off the debt.

Burress, 37, of Totowa, faced one count of issuing a bad check or electronic funds transfer, and one count of willful failure to pay state tax. Both are third-degree charges that carry a maximum penalty of five years in state prison and a $15,000 fine.
