Entering the final year of his contract, Eli Manning on Monday did not rule out continuing the negotiations for a new deal during the regular season. But Manning’s expression seemed to say otherwise, and he meaningfully added, “I’m not a fan of contract negotiations during the season.”
It appears Manning’s mind will be at ease.
The Giants are close to completing a four-year, $84 million extension with Manning, a deal that could be signed before Sunday’s opening game, according to a report by NFL.com. There are still details to be worked out, but the new contract could guarantee Manning as much as $65 million.
