PHILADELPHIA — As soon as the ball left Carson Wentz’s right hand, Eli Apple was thinking interception. Next thing he knew, he was hit hard, and Alshon Jeffery had the ball.
“You already know the rest,” the second-year cornerback said.
The rest was a 27-24 Eagles victory, on the strength of Jake Elliott’s 61-yard field goal as time expired. But it was the previous play that gave him a shot to boot the longest field goal in Lincoln Financial Field history.
The Eagles were at their own 38-yard line with seven seconds left in regulation.
