The Oakland A’s could have a large say in the Giants’ future. That’s the football Giants.
According to reports Sunday, team officials from Oakland were set to meet with Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray in hopes of convincing the quarterback/outfielder he should choose baseball over football.
Murray has until Monday to declare for the NFL draft.
ESPN reported that Oakland, which selected Murray ninth overall in last summer’s baseball draft, had received permission from MLB to offer the Oklahoma star a major league contract with guaranteed money. Normally draft picks receive a minor league contract in which the money is non-guaranteed beyond a signing bonus.
