Giants rookie Corey Ballentine continues to recuperate from the gunshot wound he suffered the night he was drafted and on Thursday signed his first NFL contract, expected to be a four-year deal worth $2.7 million.
Ballentine, a cornerback from Washburn University — a Division II school in Topeka, Kansas — was out with friend and teammate Dwane Simmons and leaving an off-campus party early in the morning on April 28 when a car pulled up and shooting ensued. Simmons was fatally shot, and Ballentine was hit in the buttocks.
The Giants instructed Ballentine to remain home while he healed, both physically and mentally.
