Even with an explosive offense, significant skill-position players on both sides of the ball, plus the return of Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator, much of the focus during Giants training camp has not been on what they have, but who they may not.
Jason Pierre-Paul, who exploded onto the scene in 2011 with 16.5 sacks and returned to form last season with 12.5 sacks, has not yet reported to camp after having his finger amputated following a July 4 fireworks accident. Pierre-Paul’s absence has left Big Blue with a void along their defensive line, but two-time Super Bowl champion Carl Banks, an analyst on the Giants’ radio network, said the team can’t let JPP’s absence affect its preparation.
