At this point, Giants nearly inventing ways to lose

For an old-fashioned shootout to be determined by a special-teams gaffe in the closing seconds served to hammer the point home again — the Giants do not know how to close games and often find inventive ways to screw up.

“The end of the game pointed out another lesson for us, and we do come by our lessons in a very difficult and hard manner, we managed not to finish,’’ Tom Coughlin said Monday, the day after a 52-49 loss to the Saints.

The Giants allowed 10 points in the final 36 seconds, and the game-winning field goal was set up by poor punt coverage and then a face-mask penalty on punter Brad Wing.
