After waiving third-string quarterback Alex Tanney to bolster their depleted pool of running backs ahead of Thursday’s loss to the Patriots, the Giants have backtracked.
As expected, the Giants re-signed the 31-year-old journeyman quarterback and waived running back Austin Walter, who took Tanney’s roster spot after being promoted from the practice squad.
With Saquon Barkley still recovering from his high ankle sprain and backup Wayne Gallman out with a concussion, the Giants’ backfield needed reinforcements on offense behind Jon Hilliman and Eli Penny. Walter only saw one offensive snap throughout the 35-14 loss, which saw the Patriots rush for 114 yards while the Giants rushed for 52.
