Cornerback Prince Amukamara will be a free agent after this season ends and he wants to return to the New York Giants. However, it's unclear if the Giants want to bring him back.
“I think any first-round draft pick or draft pick would love to stay where they were drafted at, unless they just had a horrible experience, and that definitely hasn’t been my case here,” Amukamara told Newsday. “I love the organization, definitely treated first-class here, so it’s been great.”
Amukamara has battled injuries during his time with the team. He has played in a full 16 games just once since the team took him with the No. 19 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Nebraska. Amukamara has talent, but the Giants might not want to pay him.
“It’s always been in the back of my head,” Amukamara said when asked about his free agent-to-be status. “I think when there were no talks before the season, I was planning on just focusing on the season and playing this season out, not expecting anything, and that’s been the case. The main focus is to finish the season.”
The Giants have extended only one first pick since 2002 beyond their rookie deal.
