New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has come out in support of defensive coordinator Perry Fewell's near-guarantee that the Giants will take down the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Per Josh Alper of NBC's Pro Football Talk, "Jason Pierre-Paul said Friday that he’s behind Fewell and made the same pronouncement about which team will be on top at the final whistle this weekend."
In order to do so, the New York Giants will have to solidify a run defense that gave up 350 yards to the Seattle Seahawks last weekend. A fair amount of those yards came with Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson running the read option.
Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers are likely to bring the same look, despite Pierre Paul's confidence that things will be different this week.
“They can bring the read option. We’ll take care of it,” Pierre-Paul said, via Dan Graziano of ESPN.
If the Giants can match their success against the pass last Sunday with a stout showing against the run, taking down an inconsistent 49ers team will be a whole lot easier.
