The New York Giants haven't reached their bye yet, with only the New England Patriots left before they get an off week. At 5-4, the Giants are in position for a playoff run. Before the Giants try to pick up their sixth win of the season against the Patriots, here are 5 Things We Know About The New York Giants After 9 Games:
5. Injuries
The Giants have been bit hard by injuries once again this season. The Giants will be without five players against New England and that doesn't include the 12 players on injured reserve or the pup list. Few teams have been hit as hard by injuries as the Giants and it's hurt them, especially in the secondary. Still, the Giants are in strong position to take the NFC East.
4. Murky RB Committee
The Giants are the textbook example of a running back-by-committee. Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams, Shane Vereen and Orleans Darkwa have all received carries in recent week. Jennings is the "starter," but he's averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. Vereen is getting plenty of snaps and catches as the team's third down back. It's still unclear whom the best running back on the roster is and all four should continue to get touches.
3. Eli Best QB In NFC East
Part of this is because Tony Romo is hurt, but Manning has clearly been the top QB in the NFC East. He's completing 66 percent of his passes for 2,339 yards, 19 TDs and 6 picks. That's far better than Sam Bradford and Kirk Cousins and a vast improvement over the backups the Cowboys have been trotting out. He's led the team to third best scoring offense in the NFL. Manning's presence is huge reason why the Giants lead the NFC East.
2. Bad Pass Defense
The Giants, in part because of injuries, have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. The Giants are giving up 308 yards per game through the air, the worst in the NFL. The Giants can place much of the blame for their losses on their porous secondary. New York needs to turn around its pass defense it wants to keep their lead in the NFC East.
1. Giants In Control Of NFC East
The Giants control their own destiny in the NFC East and hold a half-game lead over the Eagles. The Giants have a tricky schedule, but they are still the team to beat in the NFC East. The season-ending game against the Eagles could determine the NFC East champion.
