Ever since the unceremonious departure of former #10 Mix Diskerud, New York City FC players haven’t featured for the United States men’s national team.
That changed today.
NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson was selected for Bruce Arena’s final 23-man USMNT squad for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The 2017 selection is Johnson’s first in four years. Johnson also was selected for the 2013 Gold Cup roster, which the Stars & Stripes ultimately won for the fifth time.
New York City talisman Tommy McNamara also initially made the US’s provisional 40-man shortlist for the tournament, but was ultimately not selected.
