NYCFC’s newest goalkeeper, Sean Johnson, was wearing a number. NUMBER 1. Assuming it sticks, he’ll the be the first player in the team’s brief history to wear it. Historically, the number-1 shirt has been associated with the keeper, the first player listed on a proper squad sheet.
Johnson, a longtime Chicago Fire man with five caps for the U.S. National Team, arrived in the Five Boroughs in December courtesy of Atlanta United, who had swooped in for the player only to hold onto him about as long as the Marlins held onto Mike Piazza.
