According to a report from Peruvian website Ovacion, New York City FC has signed former Numancia center back Alexander Callens, pending the results of a physical, for the 2017 season.
This news comes off the heels of a recent announcement which said that the 24-year-old Peruvian international had requested his contract be terminated so that he could pursue interest in MLS.
Should this report become confirmed, Callens would be the first pure defensive addition to what our very own Calvin Daniel has dubbed NYC’s "youth movement," which has seen the Bronx Blues acquire the likes of forward Sean Okoli, goalkeeper Sean Johnson, and (albeit temporary) midfielder Miguel Camargo, in addition to a SuperDraft class featuring touted prospects like Akron forward Jonathan Lewis and UConn midfielder Kwame Awuah.
