See ya, Josh Saunders.
New York City FC stayed true to their promise Friday as they quickly traded the aging goalkeeper – for practically nothing — to Orlando City SC, just a day after head coach Patrick Vieira made it clear the veteran’s services were no longer wanted.
NYCFC settled on a measly fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft for Saunders, a meager return for a keeper who started nearly all of NYCFC’s games the past two seasons.
Vieira said Thursday that NYCFC had moved on from the 35-year-old Saunders once they acquired veteran goalkeeper Sean Johnson from Atlanta United.
