If you’re still celebrating New York City FC’s underdog 3-1 win against Toronto FC this past weekend, it’s time to focus up. Because what lies ahead is a really tough challenge for the Boys in Blue.
Last night, the Portland Timbers and MLS sophomores FC Cincinnati battled a tight game that was so close, regulation and extra time couldn’t decide it. After scoring one goal apiece, Portland and Cincinnati went to penalties to decide their Round of 16 matchup where the Timbers reigned supreme 5-3.
While NYCFC and Portland have not had the past tussles to indicate any kind of crazy rivalry that a team like Toronto presents, City are certainly no stranger to Timbers manager Giovanni Savarese.
