New York City FC have announced that they have signed defender Joe Scally to a Homegrown Player contract. Scally, 15, previously played for City’s U-17 team whom he helped win the Generation Adidas Cup last year in Frisco, Texas.
Scally is the second-ever Homegrown Player signing behind James Sands who signed with the Blues last summer. According to Sporting Director Claudio Reyna, the Lake Grove, NY native primarily lines up as a right back, making him the de facto understudy to both Anton Tinnerholm and Saad Abdul-Salaam.
To allow him to finish his schooling, Scally will not be joining the first team for training until the summer.
