It’s been a long time since Mix Diskerud has been a talking point in the Big Apple. Highly touted, he received an extremely lucrative contract with the newly formed New York City FC and scored the team’s first-ever regular season goal against Orlando City in 2015. However, Diskerud’s career took a nosedive into obscurity, as he lost favor with both Patrick Vieira and the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2016 following a slew of lackluster performances.
With a plethora of new midfielders — including Maxi Moralez, Yangel Herrera, and Alex Ring — in addition to retaining others like Tommy McNamara and Mikey Lopez, NYCFC bought out Diskerud’s contract in 2017 before loaning him to Swedish club IFK Göteborg, where he was required to stay until the summer.
